Gone too Soon

I met Dave 11 years ago at BCC.  I was going through some difficult times in my life (divorce, working full time, raising two small children, and taking care of my mother who was deteriorating rapidly from dementia).  A co-worker and dear friend approached me one day and said to me “I want you to come to chuch with me, it’s time”.  She must have known something or seen something that I didn’t.   I had grown up in the Methodist church and didn’t like being “preached” to from someone who stood behind a wooden box, pointing their finger at you.

Upon leaving BCC that first time, I was in tears.  I thought wow, this guys gets it and gets me.  He talked in a language that I could actually understand and said things that resonated with me.  He knew where I was at that point in my life and that I needed him to tell me about God and his love for me.  From that point on, I never once looked back.  I looked forward to going to church.    Who would’ve thought that church would accept a messy person like me, with all my issues, let me wear shorts/ blue jeans and dance?

Dave, you will be missed.  You “go get ’em” up there in heaven.  Our Maker has a wonderful person sitting next to him.  May you always be “still in one peace”.
